URBAN LUPE is an independent menswear store in Fitzroy, Melbourne, specialising in Japanese selvedge denim, heritage workwear and military-inspired clothing. We bring together jeans, work jackets, chinos, knitwear and footwear from makers around the world, alongside a selection of grooming and lifestyle goods.

From Japanese denim to American workwear

Japanese craftsmanship is at the heart of our range. You’ll find selvedge jeans from Fullcount, tailored chinos from Barnstormer, heritage workwear from Pherrow’s and Big Yank, and outerwear from Rocky Mountain Featherbed. On the same racks, you’ll find American workwear from Freenote Cloth, Canadian-made jeans from Naked & Famous Denim and handwoven shirts from Original Madras Trading Company.

We like seeing those pieces together. A pair of Japanese jeans works just as well with a handwoven Madras shirt as it does with a heavyweight sweatshirt or a wool knit. We choose clothes for how they fit, how they’re made and how they feel after years of wear. Our approach is simple. Buy less, buy better, and look after what you own.

Denim repairs and alterations in Fitzroy

Through The Holey Alter, we offer denim repairs, jeans and trouser hemming, suiting alterations and garment care advice. A worn knee, split seam or frayed hem can be part of the story of a favourite pair of jeans. Bring them in and we’ll talk through what can be repaired and how to keep them in rotation.
